Elected 2020

Dr. Wu is a Professor of Neurology, Medicine, Neuroscience, and Genetics at Johns Hopkins. He treats patients with sleep disorders and has particular expertise in hypersomnias, including narcolepsy, circadian rhythm disorders, and restless legs syndrome. His research focuses on understanding the function and regulation of sleep, an essential behavior that is conserved throughout the animal kingdom. He uses genetics approaches in simple animal models to identify new genes and circuits that underlie sleep and then translates these studies to mammals and humans. He is also interested in understanding how poor sleep may be a risk factor for the development or progression of Alzheimer’s disease. He has been recognized with the Burroughs-Wellcome Fund Career Award for Medical Scientists and the Wayne A. Hening Sleep Medicine Investigator Award, and his research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Simons Foundation.
