Biographical statement

Dr. Asgari is an Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She serves as Principal Investigator and Director of the NIH-funded Patient-Oriented Research in the Epidemiology of Skin diseases (PORES) clinical research unit. An author of more than 100 original publications, her research focuses primarily on cutaneous oncology but also encompasses inflammatory disorders of the skin, including eczema and psoriasis.

Her clinical interest and expertise dovetail her area of research focus (skin cancer). She has served as the Director of the High-Risk Skin Cancer clinic at MGH, where she supervised dermatologists, fellows, residents and medical students. The high-risk cancer clinic’s population expanded in the three years under her directorship, and now evaluates and treats over 500 patients each year and serves as a core training experience for 10 senior dermatology residents each year. She currently treats patients with skin cancer using Mohs surgery, receiving referrals locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

She has been appointed as an Associate Editor for leading impact factor dermatology journals (Journal of Investigative Dermatology and British Journal of Dermatology) and has served as a grant reviewer to national (NCI, NIAMS) and international (The Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development, Qatar National Research Fund) funding agencies. She has been elected to national leadership positions in the American Academy of Dermatology and the Society of Investigative Dermatology, where she currently serves on the Board of Directors, and the American Dermato-Epidemiology Network, where she is currently the elected President. Honors include the Career and Community Advancement Award from the Women’s Dermatologic Society, the Members Making a Difference Award from the American Academy of Dermatology, and the President Barack Obama Award Volunteer Service Award.
