Andrew Pieper graduated from Earlham College majoring in Biology and Chemistry, and then earned his MD and PhD degrees from Johns Hopkins University. His PhD was in Neuroscience, under the mentorship of Solmon H. Snyder, and focused on mechanisms of cell death. Andrew completed is Medicine Internshiip and Psychiatry Residency Training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by resident track training and a Biochemistry Fellowship at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He is currently a psychiatrist and neuroscientist in the Departments of Psychiatry, Neuroscience, and Pathology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and University Hospitals (UH) Cleveland Medical Center, where he serves as Director of the Brain Health Medicines Center at the Harrington Discovery Institute. He is an active member of the Cleveland Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, and is appointed as the CWRU Rebecca E. Barchas, M.D., Professor in Translational Psychiatry and the UH Morley Mather Chair in Neuropsychiatry. Andrew additionally serves as Psychiatrist at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center (VAMC), where he maintains a weekly Geriatric Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic. His laboratory is focused on discovery of new ways to understand and treat neurodegenerative disease, with specific applicability to brain injury and Alzheimer’s disease.
