Dr. Choate is the Aaron B. and Marguerite Lerner Chair of Dermatology, Professor of Genetics and Pathology, and Associate Dean for Physician-Scientist Development at Yale.  He is a physician-scientist practicing dermatology and conducting human genetics research at the Yale University School of Medicine.  He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Yale University.  He completed and internship in internal medicine and a residency in dermatology at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a post-doctoral fellowship in genetics under the mentorship of Richard Lifton. His laboratory studies rare inherited and mosaic cutaneous disorders to gain insight into fundamental pathways relevant to epidermal development, differentiation, and homeostasis.  His laboratory investigates mechanisms of revertant mosaicism in cutaneous disorders including ichthyosis with confetti and is actively identifying new genetic pathways for disorders of keratinization and cutaneous mosaic disorders.  His clinical practice focuses on complex medical dermatology and genodermatoses.  He has been a strong advocate for patients with ichthyosis and he has served as a member of the medical and scientific advisory board for the Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types since 2010.
