Dr. Brahmajee K. Nallamothu is an interventional cardiologist and nationally-recognized health services researcher at the University of Michigan and the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. His work focuses on improving the delivery of specialized cardiovascular services across patient populations. His seminal contributions include population-level analyses examining: (1) process-of-care improvements in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and acute myocardial infarction; and (2) quality of care of hospitalized patients with cardiac arrests. Dr. Nallamothu has published his articles in high-impact, general and subspecialty medical journals. Of his approximately 200 peer-reviewed publications, several are published in the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, and Circulation. His scholarship has improved the care of patients undergoing PCI, and those with acute myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest, as well as other cardiovascular diseases. He has obtained independent federal funding to support his work, and now mentors trainees in successful academic positions of their own. He also has held leadership roles for the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA). This includes participation as a member of national guidelines committee for acute myocardial infarction and percutaneous coronary intervention and co-chairing the American Medical Association and ACC’s first task force on performance measures for PCI. He is also on an Institute of Medicine (IOM) committee examining cardiac arrest care in the United States.
