Elected 2013

As a cardiologist, I have a deep appreciation of the personal and public health burden caused by the morbidity and mortality associated with heart disease. My research interest lies in understanding the genetic and non-genetic determinants of cardiovascular disease, with a focus on sudden cardiac death incidence and resuscitation outcomes. My work involves large population-based epidemiologic studies and clinical investigations to better understand factors involved in cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology. My current research focus examines the genetic basis of cardiac electrical activity as measured by the electrocardiogram, including cardiac conduction and myocardial repolarization, as well as cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial and ventricular fibrillation. I am also interested in investigating the complex interactions between genetic variations, drugs, and the environment on cardiac electrical activity and arrhythmias.
