Dr. John Heymach is the Chair of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology and the David Bruton Jr. Chair in  Cancer Research at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on investigating mechanisms of therapeutic resistance, understanding the regulation of angiogenesis in lung cancer, and the development of biomarkers for selecting patients most likely to benefit from targeted agents. Dr. Heymach has led a number of phase I/II clinical trials in non–small cell lung cancer.

Dr. Heymach received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Stanford University Medical School and his undergraduate degree from Harvard University. He currently serves as a project co-leader on the Lung Cancer SPORE and is the PI on an NCI R01 award, a LUNGevity Foundation grant, and an AACR Stand Up to Cancer grant. Dr. Heymach also serves as a co-leader of the MD Anderson Lung Cancer Moon Shot. He was a recent recipient of the Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Award, the Wilson Stone Award for Basic Science Research, the Emil J. Freireich Award for Translational Research, and the MD Anderson Physician Scientist and Mentor of the Year awards. His work has been extensively published in prominent peer-reviewed journals.
