Elected 2013

Dr. Noyan Gokce is Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine. He is a staff cardiologist and Director of Echocardiography at Boston Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Adult Echocardiography. Dr. Gokce joined the cardiovascular faculty at Boston Medical Center (BMC) in 1998 and has expertise in general cardiology, cardiometabolic disease, cardiovascular imaging, and echocardiography. He is the recipient of Excellence in Clinical Teaching awards in 2006 and 2011 in the cardiovascular division at BMC. He was also recently awarded the 2012 Collaborator of the Year award in Clinical/Translational Sciences at BMC, as well as First Prize in Clinical Research at the Evans Memorial Department of Medicine 100th Anniversary in 2012. Dr. Gokce's research interests currently focus on elucidating mechanisms of cardiovascular dysfunction in obesity and metabolic diseases. He is past recipient of NIH Research Career Development and American Heart Association New England Affiliate Awards and is currently the principal investigator on NIH-sponsored R01 grants that investigate the relationship between inflammatory activity in human adipose tissues and vascular and cardiometabolic dysfunction. These studies investigate the relationships among obesity, insulin resistance, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, adipose remodeling, mitochondrial dysfunction, and angiogenesis and evaluate how medical and surgical weight loss interventions and risk factor modification alter fat tissue metabolism and vascular health. Dr. Gokce has made significant contributions to defining depot-specific adipose tissue phenotypes and their relationship to the pathogenesis of vascular disease.
