Our research team is focused on investigating the hormonal influences of bone metabolism. Using clinical research techniques ranging from smaller-scale physiological studies and larger clinical trials, we further aim to use this better understanding of the hormonal regulation of bone to improve the treatment of osteoporosis in older men and women. Our group helped demonstrate selective roles for androgens and estrogen in regulating bone metabolism in men and has defined the potential of aromatase inhibition to stimulate endogenous androgen production in older men with hypogonadism. We also continue to explore the relative efficacy of antiresorptive and anabolic strategies in the treatment of osteoporosis and the potential of newer antiresorptive agents to augment the anabolic potential of parathyroid hormone in humans.
