David Engman is Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and Retired Professor of Pathology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.  He received a BA in Biology from Northwestern University in 1983 and MD-PhD (Genetics) from the University of Iowa in 1990.  From 1990 to 2016, Dr. Engman was on the faculty of the Departments of Pathology and Microbiology-Immunology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. For 17 years, he served as Director of the Northwestern University MSTP.  Research in the Engman Lab involves the cell biology and molecular genetics of protozoan parasites and the pathogenesis of African sleeping sickness, Chagas disease and autoimmune heart disease.  In recent years, the Engman lab has focused on the eukaryotic cilium as a sensory organelle and developmental regulator.  The lab has also contributed to our understanding of the autoimmune pathogenesis of Chagas heart disease.  Dr. Engman was named Amgen Outstanding Investigator of the American Society for Investigative Pathology in 2008 and Mentor of the Year of the Feinberg School of Medicine in 2015. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association and American Academy of Microbiology, and has served as President of the National Association of MD/PhD Programs and American Association of University Pathologists.
