Our basic and translational research program focuses on pathways and processes governing aging and age-related disorders, particularly cancer.  Our experimental approach builds upon the use of unbiased computational analyses of multi-dimensional datasets, genetically engineered mouse models, and human-mouse comparisons on the molecular, cellular and physiological levels. Honors and awards include: Ellis Island Medal of Honor, National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO), 2017; Order of Saint James of the Sword (knighthood), Republic of Portugal, 2015; National Academy of Sciences, 2012; American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 2010; Albert Szent-Györgyi Prize for Progress in Cancer Research, 2009; National Academy of Medicine, 2004; AACR Clowes Memorial Award, 2003; ASCI Korsmeyer Award, 2002.
